Some young Alaskans have never had the opportunity to go fishing, and that’s what the Kenai River Junior Classic is all about! Each August, kids between the ages of 8 and 16 are invited to fish the Kenai River for silver salmon with a professional guide.
With our program partners, kids also learn about the importance of water and boating safety, the life cycles of salmon, and river ecology. With assistance from many groups, volunteers, and the families of active-duty military personnel, hundreds of children have learned for the first time what it feels like to hook into a salmon. The high-fives, fist bumps, giddy smiles and sincere thanks from the kids make for our favorite day of the year.
KRSA is a charitable 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that promotes sportfishing, conservation, and education. All additional funds raised will support these objectives along with our many youth educational activities and conservation projects.
