We are so excited for everyone to join us for our upcoming Kenai River Women’s Classic. As we get closer to the event, you may have some questions regarding how things work. Please take a moment to review the following information.
What transportation is provided?
Ground transportation is provided to and from all event venues.
If you are bringing a private or corporate aircraft, it is required that you contact the Kenai Municipal Airport. You will need to provide arrival, departure and billing information as well as tail numbers, etc.

When will I know where I’ll be staying?
Your lodging information will be sent to you approximately one week before the date of the event.
What kind of weather should I expect in September on the Kenai?
Weather on the Kenai River in September averages a mid-30 degrees and a daytime high of 50-75 degrees. Rain is not uncommon during this time period. A rainy morning on the river can feel much colder than the temperature indicates. Bring warm layers of clothing. Fishing occurs come rain or shine.
What kind of attire should I plan to bring?
In your swag bag, which should be available at your hotel or B&B, you will find: a warm jacket, long sleeve shirt, hat and other goodies which we will reveal upon your arrival. For those with your own lodging your bag will be found at the Welcome Reception Check-In Station.
Fishing: Attire should be in layers as the early morning starts can be quite cold on the river, and then warms as the day progresses. Your life vest will be provided by your professional fishing guide on-shore just prior to fishing though you are welcome to use your own.
Long underwear (preferably polypropylene, not cotton)
Warm Long sleeve shirt (Fleece pull-over or heavy flannel shirt)
Warm jacket
Wool socks
Rain jacket & rain pants
Insulated rubber boots or hiking boots
Hat
Gloves
Sunglasses
Social: Business casual attire is the general dress code for all off-river functions including the Banquet.
Do I need to bring fishing gear?
You will need a valid 2022 Alaska Sportfishing License. Your licensed professional fishing guide will provide all rods, reels, tackle, and bait. KRSA has already provided gratuity for their services. In light of the king salmon conservation issues in South Central Alaska, we are fishing for silvers. Awards will be given to the top three heaviest fish caught over the two-day period. Silvers cannot be released. Caught fish will be pooled and shared among the participants. Each Kenai River Women’s Classic participant will receive a salmon gift box.
How do I get my fish home?
Fish are shared amongst participants. Boxes will be delivered to Anchorage. Due to limited freezer space, we ask that you work with us and have your fish picked up within 24 hours of notification or it may be donated to a local charity.
Are there plans for participants post-fishing?
Yes! This year after fishing, we are offering yard games and other activities right beside the river. To prepare for one game, Left-Right-Center (L-C-R), please bring six one dollar bills.
