Kenai River Sockeye Salmon Limits Doubled to Six Fish Per Day and 12 In Possession

Sharpen that filet knife and get down to the Kenai! The Kenai River is seeing positive sockeye returns, with over 151,000 fish passing the sonar on August 2nd and another 136,000 on August 3rd; ADF&G has doubled the bag limit to six fish per day and twelve fish in possession for sockeyes 16 inches or longer beginning Thursday, August 5th. This is in line with the Kenai River Late-Run Sockeye Salmon Management Plan which permits ADF&G to increase bag limits when late-run Kenai River sockeyes are expected to exceed 2.3 million fish.  With the current return data, ADF&G projects that the late run exceeds that threshold and anticipates the escapement goal of 750,000 to 1.3 million fish will be achieved. The entire announcement can be read here.

Please remember that anglers targeting silver salmon on the Kenai River are currently restricted to no bait and a single hook in support of Kenai king salmon conservation efforts.
