KRSA Supports ADF&G’s Emergency Orders for the Kenai and Kasilof Rivers

Soldotna, AK – On January 26, 2022 the Alaska Department of Fish and Game issued several emergency orders implementing restrictions to the king salmon fishing regulations for both the Kenai and Kasilof Rivers in an effort to conserve the Kenai River king salmon which have faced low returns over numerous years. ADF&G’s preseason outlook for the Kenai king salmon is the same as it has been for years: historically low returns for a fishery that is consistently at risk. KRSA supports ADF&G’s proactive steps which are consistent with the Kenai River and Kasilof River Early-Run King Salmon Management Plans, and the Kenai River Late-Run King Salmon Management Plan. It is time to conserve and rebuild the stock of the world-famous Kenai River king salmon. To that end, these restrictions will help achieve that goal. Please see our website to review KRSA’s detailed summary of these emergency orders.
