Kid’s Kenai River Spring Clean Up

The Kid’s Kenai River Spring Clean Up seeks to instill personal responsibility and stewardship of the Kenai River in local elementary students. Along with community partners and volunteer sportfishing guides, KRSA assigns local students to public sportfishing access locations. Areas that receive the highest traffic are prioritized. KRSA also equips each student group with life jackets, collection supplies, and gloves as well the knowledge of what to leave behind. The cleanup is held annually each spring when water levels are low to maximize litter collection opportunities. Students are then able to remove fishing line, weights, lures, water bottles, plastic bags–even tires; cleaning vital fish habitat.

This program has hosted nearly 4,000 students and removed over 15,000 lbs. of litter from the banks of the Kenai since it began in 2014.
